About the event
Aaron Skiles:
You may recognize Aaron Skiles’ name from the Bay Area-based band, Bourbon
Therapy. The indie rock/alt-country band was fronted by Skiles and his wife Rebecca
and released 1 full-length album, two EPs, and 12 singles before calling it quits earlier
this year. “No one’s fault,” Skiles reassures. “We couldn’t play any shows so two
members moved out of town to make a go in another city. I doubled down on my writing
and actually did get five Bourbon Therapy singles done and released in 2021. Writing a
lot, I realized I had material that I really liked but wasn’t right for Bourbon Therapy.
Some of these songs sounded more like Social Distortion or Weezer rather than mellow
ballads so I figured these weren’t BT songs, but they were Aaron Skiles songs.”
Skiles reached out to fellow musician and friend, Matt Patton (of the Drive-By Truckers),
to co-write most of his new solo album, Wreckage From The Fire.
Skiles left Oakland and headed to Water Valley, MS to record at Patton’s studio, Dial
Back Sound. Patton helped put together an all-star cast of musicians for the record:
Patton-bass and backing vocals, Jay Gonzalez (Drive-By Truckers)-piano-keys, Taylor
Hollingsworth (Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band)-lead guitar, A.J. Haynes
(Seratones)-backing vocals and Bronson Tew-drums and backing vocals. According to
Chip Frazier of Twangville.com, “the result of this collaboration is a raw, genre bending
album with fuzzy guitar and edgy vocals, that revels in its minimalistic approach.”
Aaron and his band will tour the new album, Wreckage From The Fire, this October.
